Yoga & Shaklee Working Together For Your Good Health
“When you begin doing yoga, breathing becomes a profound tool of awareness,” as Mark Stephens puts it. “Practice begins to bring balance and harmony to all aspects of our lives. Each time we step on our mat is an opportunity to open to our internal guide and flow through movement and breath to awaken, enliven and activate our essential self.”
Good digestive system health is key to wellness. Taking some tips from the teachings of Ayurveda we can have even more control over our health and wellness. In her cookbook, Everyday Ayurveda, Kate O’Donnell tells us that Yoga Twists before breakfast get our digestion fired up. She also says to eat foods in the proper order… proteins first to make the best use of the hydrochloric acid in our stomach that only proteins require. She also suggest that we avoid eating fruits after meals because they can divert the digestive systems attention away from digesting our meal and jumping to quick digesting mode. Exceptions are (mango, papaya, or pineapple) which aid in digestion and make great after dinner treats. O’Donnell, also says we should not consume cool water during meals because it cools the digestive fire. So, sip warm water or tea and see how it helps. After dinner active yoga is not advised, but, Hero’s Pose or Reclined Hero’s Pose can be good for digestion. Another idea to aid in better digestion is to rest on your left side (never right) for 10 minutes following a meal to improve digestion.
Some Healing Foods Include:
Lemons, Ghee (clarified butter), Almonds, Dates and Figs, Mund Beans, Ginger, Lassi (yogurt/water drink, Cumin Seeds, Seasonal Fruit, Leafy Greens, Warm or Hot Water, and Cow’s Milk.
Be compassionate with yourself and others.
Closing The Day Well…
To end your day well you may want to have a lovely cup of tea or a prepared tonic suggested by Kate O’donnell, made with 1/2 tsp. fennel, 1/2 tsp coriander, and a pinch of Cardamon with 2 cups of water.
