Goo Roo's Marketplace is the result of our search for a better lifestyle.  All the gadgets and tools we found useful in our attempt live it up on a budget will be incorporated into this site.  Check out the other tabs and our webstore to find some of these goodies.

To create a business like this, I have certainly lead and interesting life.  Through various trials and tribulations I have learned many lessons.  Though some of this story may sound tragic to you, for me, it has been a grand adventure.  I'll try to tell the whole story, because, each earthly experience, good and bad, have made me a stronger person and more willing to take on big challenges.  At an early age I thirst for the taste of success that I would create myself.  My life has been touched by everything from the Great Depression, to WWII, to someone else's abuse as a child.  You'll see that the events in life teach lessons.  I have been through some ordeals that seemed unfair and cruel, however, in the epiphany following each event I have been given wisdom.

Goo Roo's is my expression of this wisdom along with the teachings of a few other old souls I've met along the way.   Like my Grandma Midge telling me to never go to sleep with my worries and to always find a way to forgive.  Mom taught me the value of a clean organized home and how to get fun out of any task. Boy was that helpfull advise.  Making a home and raising a family are chief among the things that motivate us.  We all want to live an inspired life that is in harmony, yet, stimulates our psyche.  It is vital to my well-being, for instance, that my surroundings be beautiful, comfy and efficient.   Our site will be an ever-changing source of groovy solutions to life's little problems.  We embrace life and live on the edge while still understanding the joy of nature.  Our products are Earthkind and often made from recycled materials.  Seldom is anything we offer mass produced making them unique.

Michelle's Story -  Founder

I've really been working on this business as long as I have lived.  Being born seven weeks premature in a small city in Idaho, July 1968, I survived against the odds.  A miracle baby, I grew up the eldest of three to be a leader and an achiever.  My parents worked hard to give us a great standard of living and a happy home.  Sure there were struggles, but, we met them and still remain a strongly bonded unit.  I love my family so much.......................

That's all for now.....suspense must build until I finish composing this page............there is so much to tell about the joys of my current life and the tragic losses due to SIDS and a house fire that I just need some time to get it all ready to present to you.  Thanks for  your patience.

Please stop by again. Thank you for your interest!  Well, it is taking forever to get this together in any formal way so I started a journal to organize my notes, thoughts and to track my progress.  I have done some very important things lately to help me practice the Goo Roo's State Of Mind - essentially yoga.

I'm going to be really brave and post my journal until I finish the actual webpage.  I figured this was the best way to get the story told as wander from subject to subject.  Here you go.

Personal Journal of Goo Roo's Marketplace

Current Journal Entry

July 9th 2010

Goo Roo's Marketplace is going strong with yoga practice daily.  Today we worked on a session for postnatal members and put together energy flow ansana.  I feel so great.  Our book department has been getting in new books and we have a few openings left for yoga practice in the early evening at our Clarkston studio.  Some poses we have been stressing lately are warrior variations, crow pose, downward dog, tree, plank and cobra pose.  Enjoy the weekend, eat well and include yoga in your day.  Namaste.

Here lie the notes of my mind.  I hope that the use of this little journal will allow me to keep open the flows of my mind.  I often worry that some scrap of enlightenment or the obscure solution to a problem will be lost, if, not put directly into action.  This is the source of much anxiety.   Therefore, I shall gather all the saved scraps of paper and torn out magazine ads inspiring tidbit and place them here in the journal to eventually share with fellow Goo Roo's on the website.  Some of the stuff contained here are from me, while, others come from readings..

Friends, family and community passed on by elders.   Let us not forget the wisdom bestowed on me by the little children in my life.  From the mouths of babes and teens:  some humor, some horror.  When possible I will note the source..  Okay to start with, I will tell a little about where I am right now.  The history surrounding how I got here is significant.  ............................Black Lake , Idaho in a tent listing to my husband Dean Chainsaw.  Tim McGraw in the background.  I am in a tent with the netted sky open above me.  I have recently completed morning Yoga with a DVD on my laptop.  Now I will spend a little while organizing the Goo Roo's File box so I can put the contents in this journal.   A bit more about Black Lake and the last four days:  Thursday we left our child (Dane, 11) at Grandma's and headed for the Music Festival in Sandpoint, Idaho.  Our longtime friends Gary and Cheri Prasil invited us to stay in there new house on the lake.  We come almost every year, but usually to the original Prasil Family Cabin a little ways down the shore.  In fact, that is where Dean and I spent some of our Honeymoon.  The new house is Grande not to mention beautiful.  The view of Bottle Bay astounds me.  Friday morning Dean, Gary and I road Wave Runners out and around Lake Pende Ore.  Gorgeous scenery (minus the dead skunk I saw floating near an island).  That evening we attended an outdoor concert on the edge of the lake  featuring Ziggy Marley.  Saturday Dean and went touristing through the shops in Sandpoint.  Home, by the way, to Coldwater Creek.

That evening we served great cheese, salami and grapes on the deck.  Later in the  evening, Ed and Sandy, Prasil’s partners in the Lake House, took us in their boat back out on the lake to listen to Winnona Judd’s concert float out over the lake.  Pretty cool.  Yesterday we drove to our property at Black Lake near Coure d’Alene, Idaho.  We pitched a tent and watched to stars.  Today I hope to take a bike ride to Harrison and swim a little before we return home.  Now I just want to organize my thoughts and set some goals and tasks for getting this Goo Roo’s thing going.

Date Aug. 19, 2008

Last night we got home about 8:30.  Mom invited us to stay for Tacos, yeah I don’t have to cook.  This morning I got up at five and headed out to work (F.S.  Center of Positive Living, to Julietta House then Finally up to Anatone, bank then home.  I am tired, but wanted to get some things entered since my battery went dead at Black Lake before I got any of the file box stuff entered.  I did sort; that’s about it..

I realized that when I feel comfortable in my own skin, life just flows.

I was thinking of myself and my friend Carmen, the singer, who

also works in an office.  I realized that she and I have BIG dreams

and that not everyone has such high goals.  Therefore, we are often

bringing on extra pressures for accomplishment.    This sometimes keeps

us from enjoying  the moment.  The huge to do list is never done.  If , I become

comfortable in my own skin, I will release the pressure I have loaded on myself.

LIVE IN THE MOMENT!!!!!!

The world is a stage!!!!!!              TA DA

Yesterday was busy.  I came home tired with a pizza.  Luke had escaped and I had to give him a shower.   Now I am back to transcribing notes for the  website.

These are my thoughts.  One day last year I was feeling overwhelmed by the roles I have created for myself in the lives of my family and clients.  I want to come up with a series about help for the Wonder Wife/ Super Mom  in many of us.  I often measure my worth by what I have accomplished besides going to work and doing household  chores.  Sometimes I'm not worth too much at the end of the day.,. Too pooped to pot.  Am I expecting too much of myself?  Am I setting unrealistic goals.  Probably not.  I think I should be using the power of delegation to get more out of each day.  I never really make my family help around the house.  I do constantly gripe at Dane (my eleven-year-old son) to clean up after himself and tidy up his belongings..  This is a very ambiguous concept for him to grasp.  I'm going to simplify things for him with a new chore list with bigger print .

September 14, 2008  Sunday

This is proof that the only time I get anything done is when the guys are gone .  They went camping and I stayed home to work on computer and clean the house.  Well, thought I'd write in my journal.  It has almost been a month since I wrote.  I did get my website on line and many other things, but I think I should be able to stick with the journal plan for at least a few weeks...............

Fresh start.   I haven't had a cigarette in weeks.  Yeah for me!  I guess some consider it cheating but I took a prescription.    Not cheating I didn't smoke.  How cool is that?

Note on Religion:

I don't practice any one religion, yet, I value religion as a source of guidance and focus for positive ways of being. Most religions essentially lead to a Zen lifestyle with harmony among people and in nature.  We could utilize our resources wisely, create beauty, nurture family and community.

Yeah, it has been a while since I checked in, however, I have been hard at work, had the flu, and sprained my back.  I have made many edits of the website.  For now, I would like to use the journal to organize my notes and to clean out this idea folder.  Here goes .......

FROM  NOTES OF 9/24/04

It feels like a good time to sit back and reflect... it has been an amazing few years.....
The tale I tell is mine and shares many heartaches and passions.  I was born in July 1968, which was a significant year in our country's history. That year our nation was involved in a conflict in Vietnam and the Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King Jr. was killed.  I feel fortunate that my dad was home with my mother and me  instead of enduring the sorrows of the battlefield.

I came seven weeks early  which was usually too early in those days.  Most infants would not have survived.  The surgeons at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewiston, Idaho performed a groundbreaking operation on me when
I was one day old.  That same day they had been at work one the drivers from the race track's tragic wreck.  The aftermath kept them busy all day and into the night only to called back to do surgery on a 3-pound baby.  As luck would have it my mom worked at the hospital, so she was able to be near me for the next several weeks while I continued to develop in an incubator. My father worked at a manufacturing  plant nearby.  All in all, a good start as I not only survived, but also, thrived.

I'm now 36 years old, I own my own business and have been working for years to get these products and services on the World Wide Web.  This brings me to why I'm writing.  I intend to share some of the things I've learned along the way in this website.  A little background please.

Life hands us stuff.  We deal with it.  I like to pull the life lessons out of the stuff.  Life gives us wisdoms and in life, we must incorporate these lessons in our daily life to enrich our experiences.  For example,  when I was going to college  all my success seemed to hinge on my organization skills and good time management.  One thing I have to say for myself  is that if, I prioritize tasks, find a place for everything, create systems for doing things, enjoy time with friends and family, remember to eat right, all is well in my world.  However, as life tends to hand me enormous arrays of stuff to handle, this seems a tall order. This task is how the notion of Goo Roo's Marketplace  came to be.

One day my friend Diane  introduced me to essential oils.  I found boundless benefits for them and have incorporated them into my daily routine. At 30, I tried yoga for the first time.  LOVED IT!!!!!

I feel so whole and balanced when I'm keeping up with my Goo Roo's Way of Life.  Yoga is key.  Lately, that has been a challenge, but, I plan to make it easier.  I also miss walking my dog every day.  Committing to it seems to evade me.  I can't really figure this out because I truly love  to do these activities but, can't seem to get back into it since our house burned down and I trashed my knee.  Long story gets longer.......... I know, however, that none of these things are unsurmountable.  I'll get it done.

December 28, 2008

That was a nice holiday season.  We were ready early, the holiday goodies and feasts were fabulous and many.  Dane got pretty much everything he wanted.  An old Slaybaugh tradition out did itself this year.  I got everything I wanted and Dean did too.  Alternatively, he bought it for himself.    chuckle      chuckle  This always tends to irk me because it makes it nearly impossible to think of something he will enjoy,  This year I took the pressure off and let him do it and I just bought him what I wanted to.

Date   February 5th, 2009   Thursday

Okay Okay It has been for  - ever since I entered anything in this journal.  Don't think I have been sitting around eating  Bon Bons.  Oh no, I have however, put on a few pounds that is really helped motivate me to do all the things I am about to tell you about.  I have rented an office in town that is barely big enough but the price was right.  Soon our yoga practice studio and the gooroosmarketplace.com office will be open on Sycamore Street.  Yeah!!!!  There is so much to do.  It will be a lot to juggle, because I cannot hire anyone yet and I have a lot of houses to clean each week.  Dane is very excited because it is close to the skateboard park.  I ordered bottles today and finished the temporary logo and made signs and cards.  Well I really must get back at it.
Bye for now.

Notes on Deepak:

Here I summarize  the writing by Dr. Deepak Chopra and David Simon

Growing Younger, Live Longer, Ten Steps to Reverse Aging

I Step One - You can reverse your biological age by changing your perceptions
A. Biomarkers of Aging
Aerobic Capacity
Antioxidant levels
Auditory Threshold
Blood Pressure
Blood Sugar Regulation
Body Fat
Bone Density
Cholesterol and Lipid Levels
Hormone Levels
Immune Function
Metabolic Activity
Muscle Mass
Muscle Strength
Skin Thickness
Temperature Regulation
Visual Threshold

B. Experience the Body as a field of energy, transformation and intelligence
 Set your biostat

“Every day in every way, I am increasing my mental and physical capacity.  My Biostat is set at a  healthy  ____________ years of age.”
Picture  your body as a quantum level: a field of energy, transformation and intelligence.

C. Perceiving your Body Light Enlivened Energy (Prana) think energy when walking outside, breathing,  etc.
Enlivening Transformation - (tejas) think transformation when taking a mouthful of food, feeling  the sun on your body, etc.
Enlivening Intelligence (Ojas) - 1 Think intelligence when you take a sip of water, walk along a body  of water, or drink fresh fruit juices or other healthy drinks.

D. The body as a river of renewal "Your body is not a mechanical structure fixed in time and space.  It is a  field of energy, information, and intelligence in dynamic exchange with your environment, capable  of perpetual healing, renewal, and transformation.

Sit comfortably, close your  eyes and take a full deep inhalation.  Now, as you slowly exhale the air from your lungs, visualize your breaths as a flow of molecules being released from every c3ll in  your body and with each ingoing breath, you are bringing atoms to every cell and organ of your body.  You are renewing your body with every breath you take. Continue to breathe in and out imagine your body as a continual stream of energy and transformation, constantly renewing and refreshing itself.

Bring your attention to your stomach and know that the entire stomach lining will be renewed in less than a week.  Now bring your attention to your skin and know within one month the cells will be replaced by new one cells and you will have completely new skin.

See your skeleton in your minds eye, the atoms that currently comprise it will be replaced  by new ones in three months.  Bring your attention to your liver.  You will have a new one in six weeks.  Now, feel your whole body. In one year. Almost all of it will be new.  Now, say to yourself, "I am renewing my body with every breath I take."  See your body as it really is, infinitely flexible, fluid and forever in renewal.

STEP TWO:  YOU CAN REVERS YOUR BIOLOGICAL AGE THROUGH TWO KINDS OF DEEP REST, RESTFULL AWARENESS, AND RESTFULL SLEEP

A.  I put this in practice by:
1.  Experiencing restful awareness - try sitting meditation with eyes closed for a minimum of 20 minutes twice a day.

2.  Experiencing renewal and rejuvenation every night through restful sleep.

3.  Synchronize my biological rhythms with the rhythms of nature.
"Agitation in the body and mind creates dis - ease and accelerates aging.  Deep rest in the body and mind reverses biological age.  The stress response causes physical changes that damage the body and accelerate aging.
Watch  for these symptoms of Stress Response -
 Heart beats faster
Blood pressure rise
Consume more oxygen
Expel more carbon monoxide
Breathe faster and shallower
Your heart pumps more blood
You sweat

One part of you adrenal glands pumps out adrenaline and more adrenaline, which, constrict blood vessels.  Another part of your adrenal glands pump out Corte sol.

Your pancreas releases more of the hormone glucagons

Your pancreas release less insulin.  Because of more glucagons and decreased insulin, your blood sugar rises.

You reduce the blood supply to your digestive organs and increase the blood supply  to your muscles.

Too much  stress can cause illness and make you age, the opposite of stress or fight or flight is restful awareness response

B.  Restful Awareness- A state when the body and mind are in deep rest but your mind is awake.  Restful sleep is the same state only the mind is asleep.  Meditation helps cultivate a sate of restful awareness.
1.  So Hum Meditation
 a.  Sit in a comfortable position in a peaceful setting; close your eyes.
 b.  Take a slow deep breath through your nose while you think the work SO
 c.  Exhale slowly through your nose while thinking the work HUM
 d.  Continue breathing silently repeating SO HUM as you breathe
e.  Whenever your attention drifts   to thoughts in your mind, sounds in your environment or sensations in your body, gently return to your breath silently repeating SO HUM.
f.  Continue this process for twenty minutes with an attitude of effortlessness and simplicity.
g.  When the time is up, continue to sit with your eyes closed for a for a few minutes before resuming your daily activity.

C.  Restful Sleep means you drift off easily and sleep soundly for 6-8 hours.
Preparing for restful sleep (Nightly Routine)
1.  Eat a light dinner no later than seven or 8 pm
2.  Take a leisurely stroll after dinner
3.  Minimize excitement after 8:30 pm
4.  Aim to be in bed , lights out, by 9:30 or 10 pm
5.  Take aromatherapy bath before bed (music, candles)
6.  Self massage before bath.
7.  After bath drink tea or milk with nutmeg and honey - have a cookie, if, you like.
8.  If mind is active, journal.
9.  Read inspirational literature.
10. Don’t work or watch television.
11. Once you lie down, feel your body consciously relax the tense areas.
12. Watch your slow breath in until you drift off.

If, you  still have trouble, try putting something warm on your belly.

Try repeating this mantra:  ”OM Agasthe Shahina”

Try sleeping on your stomach with your feet hanging over the bed.

If all else fails, stay u all night and avoid napping the following day.

Lack of Restful Sleep accelerates aging.  Restful sleep accelerates healing, minimizing atrophy and enlivens renewal.

D.  Harmonize

(Sorry I’m taking a break.  I will come back to this entry and finish later.  Keep your eye out.) I'll finish these notes here.

My bravery is amazing me.  Also, totally out of character.  I bit the bullet and rented a space for Goo Roo's Marketplace and Yoga Practice Studio.

It is incredible to do a whole yoga session uninterupted; first time in years.  I have been so blessed by my cheerleaders and the support of new aquantences.  Everything seems to be falling into place.  Time will tell.

Got to go take care of the cleaning company.  Have a great day!

March 23, 2009

Well, another month flew by.  I have been working like a dog, but, enjoying every day.  My friends Carmen and Val have been so helpful in getting the studio together.  I have made a good effort to do yoga every day.  I did Pilates a few days, too.  Wow!  Seems easy......but the next day you feel it.  It does get easier each time.  I can touch my own arms without tears now.  The weight loss goal aquisition is a little slow.  Started out bam!  Nine pounds lost first 2 weeks, gained 1 pound back and stayed there.  I'm getting ready to bust though this plateau now.  Each days goal is to do one yoga routine and one pilaties routine. Wish me luck.

Goo Roo's is nearly ready to open.  Just a few details.  At home things are good.  My husband and my son have helped to prepare dinner a few times.  Dane did one evenings meal all by himself.  Yes!!!!  Baseball season is upon us.  My son moved up a league this year.  I am really looking forward to it.  His broken foot is healing well.

I'm glad you checked in.

Don't forget to sign the guest book.

Busy days with baseball, school and work.  Everything is going my way.  We cruised around the Live After Five last Thursday in downtown Clarkston.  That was so neat!  Lots of local traders out an about.  A great chance to get in touch with the vendors.  We will probably be offering hand-made soap, more jewelry and art, and some plants and produce as a result.  I hope to have regular business hours, soon.  Meanwhile, I hope those who are interested in starting their yoga sessions will give me a call.  I have officially lost 11 pounds since March, but, more importantly I am feeling much more fit.  I also believe that continual use of the studio is improving my state of well-being.  I am a little more organized, and have more energy.   I really believe that in order to function well in our daily life, we must take time to care for ourselves.  My family is benefiting because I'm nicer at home and feeling like doing more things.  Come on down, and join me.

Have a fabulous week!  Summer is here. Bye for now.

Affectionately yours, - Michelle

June 19th 2009

What a power week; I cleaned 15 buildings this week.  Wow I'm so proud.  I have also made some changes to the website I think are fresh and exciting.  Last weekend I made 5 beaded key-chains and 7 new necklaces,  Some of the items were hemp and turned out pretty well, if, I do say so myself.  Tuesday was my nephew Ryan's 6th Birthday.  We had a large gathering at my parents.  My dad has 6 brothers, with there families alone is a crowd, then add us and the family visiting from Back East. Fun memories were made.  Yoga this week was very productive, one evening we did free-style and the other we did 2 practice sessions back to back (one was Healing Yoga the other was Yoga Remedy for Back Pain),  My uncle John is up from Bakersfield for his annual month with my mother.  I was so delighted  to see him.  He left sometime Wednesday and got here last night.  I joked that he must have flown, then I saw the car he brought.....a 62 Studabaker Hawk!  He is in his 70's and has plans to put his car restoration talents to work on my husbands 55 Chevy Truck.  Too cool.  On his last visit he painted by dad's 55 Chevy 2-door Post.  We are a lucky family.

Tomorrow is Sunshine Festival in Clarkston's Downtown.  I'll be at the yoga studio with the coffee and tea on.  Thanks for the visit.  Have a fab weekend.

June 25th 2009 - 5:30 am

I'm heading out for a morning yoga session at Goo Roo's Marketplace Yoga Studio.  What a great way to start the day!  Last evenings session was so invigorating. We did the Fountain of Youth Ansana, Sun Salutation and the Healing Yoga DVD for Fatigue and Headache.  I felt at peace when I returned home.  We at leftover Halibut and Scrimp with Spagetti Squash, Salad and Cottage Cheese. This morning I at leftover Chili Rellenos and Innkeepers Toast. Yum. I sometime wish I had taken a photo of our plates to add to recipes on the website to inspire our readers about their meal plans.  One day I will get this idea rolling to share.  Keep watching!  Thanks again to Carmen for her constant support in this indevor.  Especially, for finding errors on the site and doing yoga with me on a regular basis.  It is the highlight to my week.  Have a fabulous day!

July 21, 2009

While nestling my dying rose bouquets to dry on the bedroom wall, I think  how poetically profound the gesture is.  I am preserfing their essence and beauty to enjoy for my forever.  A nice plus beings the room is getting stuffy as I have been nestled their for days myself.

                                          Surgery Last Wednesday

I lay her staring at the walls contemplating paint samples in my mind.  For the walls are still drywall and joint compound, affectionately called "mud" around here.  A deep dusty rose I think.  Dang I wish I would have bailed Dean out of helping my uncle with his truck and insisted he finish our room.

Don't even care really.  For some reason when Dr.  Sara removed the  um ..........female plumbing............no.....................what shall I say?         TOTAL Pain In the Ass Ovaries, Uterus and some other unmentionables from my body!!!  I don't even miss them.  I have this new sense of calm that I have never experience before in my life.  Before all these huge obstacles keeping me from my desires seemed imoveable.  I felt totally defeated.  Now I am FULL OF HOPE.  And just then Casey ELben popped into my head.   B......EEEE...........CAU..............SE............. OF THE flowers.  I was daydreaming about having her and here two "Adorables"  Kaden and Samanthat over to sit on my bed and play theth my new bunny Marty and discuss how the Flower Lady and the  Queen Of Recycling could get together on a project.

August 26th 2009

Well as usual it has been weeks since my last entry.  I have been recoperating well and have done some things I never have time for.  Dane, my 12-year old son, and I went to Portland, Oregon on a skateboard park tour.  We went to the OMSI Center, Portland Zoo and Saturday Market.  The city buses and trains were a trip.  When we got home we went to our Hell's Canyon cabin for 6 days.  The beach was the best ever.  On Monday and Tuesday we visited with friends and went on a ride in the Blue Mountains near where Bambi was released into the wild.  He is still in velvet and looks wonderful. Technical Difficulties -  I haven't been able to log in to the site builder to make any changes in some time.  I hope things weren't too dull.  I've been busy getting well and working with my staff.  I want to do a big push for new clients for Leisure Lifestyles Housekeeping for the Holidays.  Speaking of which, they are fast approaching.  Time to break out the tensil.  The coffee shop is ready to open, just waiting on approval from the city and county.  I've been working on displays and merchandise.  If, you are in the neighborhood and the lights are on.....
Well, I have much to do.  Yoga tonight!!!!!!  I'll be in touch.

Time flies.  Spring time has been a little slow to come this year.  I have started some plants indoors and tilled the soil in the gardens.  This weekend I will be putting together some potted gardens, planting a new patch of grass out back of the rabbits to play in.  I would also like to make some home made dog treats for Dusty and Lexy.  Happy Mother's Day to our worlds Moms.

I'm back!  For so long I have let technical difficulties pull me away from my site.  I am really going to try to keep things fresh and update the different departments.  I am also, about to launch a big marketing campaign.  I have not been brave or confident enough up to this point to push myself out there.  Well, the time has come to "just do it."  Keep in touch and watch for us on facebook.  I am close to opening the studio for regular business hours.  Yoga and meditation have become a part of my daily life for the past few years and I hope to share the benefits with my friends.  Good night for now.

June 25th 2010  Well, Goo Roo's is really rolling.  Yoga sessions are going really well, we are all finding our poses improve and the benefits abound!  Daily sessions include many standing poses, meditation, and other relaxing pursuits.  Tomorrow there will be session on the shore of the Snake River.  Namaste!

Namaste.
